Melinda Elaine Kimpson, age 53, was born July 17, 1973, and gained her heavenly wings on August 4, 2026.
She spent her childhood in Calhoun, TN, and later moved to Athens, TN.
Melinda was a devoted member of Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church in Calhoun, TN. She also fellowshipped with many other churches throughout the surrounding area. Her love for the Lord and her passion for praise were evident throughout her lifetime, touching the lives of all who knew her.
She spent her life as a devoted mother, a faithful worshiper of Christ, and a loving source of comfort, laughter, and support to her family and friends. Melinda had a way of making every occasion more joyful. Her fun-loving spirit, quick sense of humor, and contagious smile could light up any room. She brought an energy and warmth wherever she went, making even the simplest gatherings memorable. She was always willing to lend a helping hand, support her family in countless ways, and stand firmly beside those she loved. Her unwavering love, loyalty, and joyful spirit were a blessing to everyone fortunate enough to know her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ben Kimpson and Mattie Sue Winton-Craig; her uncles, Elbert Kimpson, Albert Kimpson Jr., and Ralph Winton; and her aunt, Geneva Kimpson.
She leaves to cherish her memory her three sons, Artez (Nicole) Kimpson of Calhoun, TN; Brandon (Mary) Kimpson; and Tyreek Moss of Athens, TN. She was a proud grandmother to five grandchildren, Zaniya, Nyasia, Carter, Alannah, Braxton and Abel, whom she loved dearly.
She is also survived by her four siblings: Corey Wright (Patricia) of Boston, Massachusetts; Sabrina (Bradford) Abernathy; Trey (Sharon) Kimpson of Athens, Tennessee; and Benji Kimpson of Calhoun, Tennessee. She leaves behind six nieces and nephews, Tylin and Tashea Gordon, Morgan Griffin, Aniya Noland, Brianna Singh, and Daylin Kimpson, along with several great-nieces and great-nephews whom she dearly cherished.
Melinda also leaves to cherish her memory her aunts and uncles: Danetta Wilson (Ronald); Ruby Rogers of Sweetwater, Tennessee; Helen McCroskey (Freeman) and Willie Jones (Nelson) of Atlanta, Georgia; Mary Johnson (Jerome) of Kissimmee, Florida; Linda Beard of Calhoun, Tennessee; and Joe Kimpson of Calhoun, Tennessee.
She also leaves to cherish her memory her beloved life partner and special friend, Johnny Neal.
A host of cousins and friends that she loved deeply.
The family of Melinda would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to everyone who offered love, prayers, kindness, and support throughout her final days and during this difficult time. Every visit, phone call, card, message, act of kindness, and expression of love has been deeply appreciated and will be forever cherished. Your presence and support have been a comfort to the family and a beautiful reflection of the love Melinda shared with so many throughout her life.
May Melinda’s life be an inspiration to us all, to love those around us deeply, to find joy in the simple moments, to laugh often, to have fun, and to never miss an opportunity to dance. May we carry her joyful spirit, beautiful smile, and love for life with us always.
Homegoing celebration for Melinda will be held Saturday, August 15, 2026 at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel of M.D. Dotson and Sons Funeral Home – Athens, TN, with pastor Rev. Reginald L Ferguson of MT. Lebanon Baptist Church – Calhoun delivering the eulogy. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home before the service. Interment will follow at Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church Cemetery in Calhoun, TN.
