Marie Elizabeth Berry was born on February 4, 1940, in Cleveland, Tennessee, to the late Mae O. Tibbs and Calvin W. Jarrett. She peacefully departed this life on June 29, 2025. At the time of her passing, she was a resident of Charter Assisted Living.
Marie was a devoted and long-time member of Green’s Chapel Presbyterian Church, where she served faithfully on the Usher Board and was active in the Ladies Missionary Society. She retired from Duracell after 35 years of dedicated service.
Marie had a heart of gold. Her love language was food—making sure that everyone enjoyed a good, hearty meal. Family and friends cherished the warmth and comfort of her home-cooked meals. Sundays were especially meaningful, as she lovingly rotated through her loved ones’ favorite dishes each week. It became a tradition for members of the community to stop by after church, hoping for a taste of one of her delicious meals. Her famous chicken and dumplings, along with her fried apricot pies, will be lovingly remembered by all who were fortunate enough to enjoy them.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Mae O. Tibbs and Calvin W. Jarrett; her husband, Billy G. Berry; her sisters, Barbara J. Pugh and Dorothy J. Moore; her brothers, Gregory A. Tibbs, Dennis Jarrett, and Gilbert Jarrett; and her beloved granddaughter, Nastachia J. Colbert.
Marie leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories. She is survived by her daughters, Connie Colbert, Tamra Jarrett, and Janet McCann (Aaron), all of Cleveland, TN; her grandchildren, Brielle Burgin (Jeremy), MaKayla Houston (Justin), and Tristen McCann; and her great-grandchildren, Jon Emory and Avacyn L. Burgin, her sisters, Brenda Jarrett and Waynetta Taylor of Cleveland, TN, and Purnella McCleary of Charleston, TN; her brother, Calvin G. Jarrett (Deliah) of Cleveland, TN; and sister-in-law Anna Bell Phillips.
She is also lovingly remembered by several nieces, and nephews, as well as many great-nieces and nephews.
