Lorene Mildred Walker passed away on Thursday, October 2 at the age of 94 at Erlanger Baroness Hospital, Chattanooga, Tennessee. The fourth of five daughters, she was born to Hugh and Bertha Moss in Etowah, Tennessee on June 28, 1931.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Hugh and Bertha Moss; husband, Calvin C. Walker; daughter, Geraldine Frances Walker Lenoir; granddaughter, Felicia Walker; sisters, Rosa Mae Bradford, Lula Sue Prater and Helen Lois McCroskey; nieces, Sabrina McCroskey, Sheila Dodd, and Valerie Morris.
She leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories for her family and friends. Lorene is survived by her daughter, Dr. Margie Ann Walker Charasika, EdD (James D. Charasika, M.D.); son, Terry C. Walker; and sister, Willie Jean McCroskey; 7 grandchildren, Paidemoyo Charasika,Tendai Charasika (Carissa),
Dr. Itayi Ann Charasika Hall, DPT (Chris), Kudaira Charasika, Gina Ball (Byron), Calvin Walker , and Aaron Walker; 13 greatgrandchildren; three nieces,
Odean Johnkins (Jerome), Carolane Gable (Carl), Connie McDermott (Sedrick Scarver )and two nephews, Allen Ray McCroskey (Wanda), and Alvin McDermott and a host of extended family and friends whose lives were enriched by her presence.
A celebration of Lorene 's life will be held on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, at Mount Olive African Methodist Episcopal (A.M.E.) Zion Church, Etowah, Tennessee. Family and friends are invited to gather, share memories, and honor her remarkable life. Special thanks are due to Lorene’s caregivers this past year, Brenda Curry and her daughter, Wynaka Buchanan.
Visitation will be 12:00 a.m. – 1 p.m. at Mount Olive African Methodist Zion Church, Etowah, Tennessee. The funeral service will follow at 1 p.m. She will buried at Green Hill Cemetery, Etowah, Tennessee.
Lorene will be dearly missed but never forgotten. May she rest in peace, and may we hold her memory close to our hearts forever.
