Jimmy Cannady age 78 passed away at his home on Wednesday May 7, 2025 surrounded by family. He attended Riverview Baptist Church in Lenior City, TN when his health would allow. He was baptized at an early at Travelers Rest Baptist Church and later moved his member ship to St. Paul A.M.E. in Atlanta. After 25 years of service he retired from the City of Atlanta Department of Aviation. He was a member of McMinn County Foster and Adoptive Care Association for many years. Jimmy loved fishing and playing his card games, and watching sports.

He is preceded in death by his father Charlie ‘Pop’ Cannady, brother Charles Cannady, sister Joann Fair, nephew Estrada Cannady, mother-in-law Ruby Scales Thompson, step-sonDerondo Logan.

He leaves to cherish many memories his devoted wife of 33 years, Molly Joyce Thompson Cannady, Daughters, Anita (Lamar) Hester and Carman Hall. Sons Jimmy Bernard Nash of Jonesboro, Ga., Terrell (Keisha) Cannady of Atlanta, and Donald(Sheneekeia) Cannady.

Five special children Jimmy lovingly took under his care and gave them all his last name through adoption, James, Rachel, Dominic, Christopher, Felicia Cannady all of Sweetwater, TN.

Beloved Mother, Myertice Cannady of Ellenwood, Ga. Four sisters, Shirley Mann of Morrow, Ga, Linda(Daryll) Carter of Rex, Ga., Janice(Anthony) Ector of Forrest Park, Ga. And Patricia Cannady Lowe of Stockbridge, Ga. Four brothers, Lewis(Willie Mae)Cannady of Conley, Ga., David Cannady and Harold Cannady of Ellenwood, Ga., and Stanley Cannady of Forrest Park, Ga. Sisters-in-law, Judy Jones of Knoxville, TN and Joann Cannady of Atlanta, Ga. Three aunts, Betty Jean Gauff, Bertha Mae Ingram, and Della Mae Sims. A very special friends Charles(Jeanette) Hogans of Loudon, TN. 15 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 17, 2025 at 1:00 p.m in the chapel of M.D. Dotson and Sons Funeral Home – Athens, TN. 502 Congress Parkway, with Rev. Nicholas Jones and Rev. Anthony Cannon. The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the funeral home from 12:00 noon to 1:00 p.m.
