Helen Loretta Bowerman, 89, of Cleveland, TN, entered her heavenly home on Tuesday, November 25, 2025.
Helen was born July 28, 1936, in Summerville, Georgia, and moved to Tennessee as a young adult. She loved children and birthed twelve children of her own and spent many years caring for other children as a teacher in head start and as a private nanny. She also worked as a certified nursing assistant at Life Care Centers of America for many years.
Helen enjoyed cooking for her family and often gloated that her food “tasted better” than everyone else’s. She enjoyed riding around and being mesmerized by how much Cleveland has changed over the years. She loved visiting and frolicking around at the Mennonite community farmer’s market and Apple Valley Orchard. She was an avid Atlanta Braves fan and especially loved watching Ronald Acuna Jr.
Helen and her outspoken, sassy personality will be missed by all who loved her.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Marshall Bowerman; her parents, Thelmer and Vivian Louise Finley; her sons, Wilbur James Taylor, Jr., Corey Taylor, Ray Taylor and Christopher Taylor; her daughter, Tracey Taylor-Smith; granddaughter, Camilla Brown; her sisters, Beatrice Sharp, Emma Cox and Cavalier Martin; her brothers, Hugh Finley, Larry Waldo Finley and Carlton Woodrow Finley.
Left to cherish her memories are her children, Andy Hudgins(Natacha), Phyllis Hickey (Erwin), Reagon Hudgins (Nicole), Roy Taylor (Gabriella), Ramona Brown, Monona Jackson, and Hiawatha Brown; her brothers, Timothy Finley, Sr. (Lindra) and Sanford Finley (Sophia); her sister, Daphne Morrison; twenty-two grandchildren; forty-six great-grandchildren; beloved niece, Taiya Constant; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 29, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Edward S. Robinson Sr. delivering the eulogy. The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the Church from 12:00 noon until 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow the service at Fort Hill Cemetery.
