Forever in our hearts
With deep love and sorrow, we announce the passing of Reverend Dr. Harry Johnson Sr., who departed this life on April 28, 2026 at the age of 86.
Harry Johnson was born on May 15, 1939 in Cleveland, TN to Frank and Viola (Spriggs) Johnson. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. A man known for his kindness, strength, humor, and unwavering faith.
He dedicated his life to his wife, family, and community, and was especially known for his love of music, theology, and teaching.
He leaves to cherish his memory his wife Lenta Johnson, his children Karen Gillespie, Melanie Johnson-McMahan, Harry (Monica) Johnson Jr., Grandchildren Jahmal (Courtney) Johnson, Rasheed Johnson, Jayla McMahan, Isaiah Johnson, Jolie (David) McMahan, Viola Johnson, Jordan Johnson, Ryan Johnson, Roman Johnson, Great grandchildren Xavier Johnson, Zyire Johnson, Jade Browning, and a host of nephews and nieces. As well as special friends Demetrius Ramsey and Terrence Arnett.
He is preceded in death by his parents Frank and Viola Johnson, son Kerri Graham, siblings Virgilia Leroy, Norman Johnson, Geraldine (Robert) Everret, Bobby Johnson, James I. Johnson, Faye (Ardell) Couch, and William Person.
Memorial service will be held Sunday, May 3, 2026 at 1:00 p.m. at Green’s Chapel Presbyterian Church 288 Wool Street, Charleston, TN 37310 with Minister Carol Westfield officiating and Rev. Eundra Porter delivering the eulogy. The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the church from 12:00 noon until 1:00 p.m.
