Don Hassler age 75 of Cleveland, passed away peacefully on June 13, 2026, in Chattanooga, TN.
Don was a loving brother, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend whose presence brought warmth and laughter wherever he went. He was known for his kind heart, friendly spirit, and his ability to make everyone feel like family.
One of the things many will remember most about Don was seeing him riding around the neighborhood, always stopping to wave, talk, or check in on someone. He knew everyone, and everyone seemed to know him. Because of his friendly nature and the way he stayed connected with those around him, many lovingly called him “the Mayor of the Neighborhood.” Don never met a stranger. He could strike up a conversation with anyone and leave them smiling.
He is preceded in death by his parents Jesse and Cora Hassler and sisters, Melinda Williams and Genevieve Sharp.
His greatest joy was his family, and the love he had for them was unwavering. He leaves behind countless treasured memories and a legacy of love, laughter, and connection.
Don is survived by his sister, Debra Hassler, his daughters, Melissa Ann(Antonio) Simpson of Murfreesboro, TN and Shawna Michelle Lane of Clarksville. His sons, Chris Phillips of Cleveland, TN, and Stuart Brown of Indiana. 12 beloved grandchildren, 5 precious great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, extended family members, neighbors and dear friends who will miss him deeply.
Though Don is no longer with us in body, his spirit lives on in the stories, laughter, and love he shared with so many. The neighborhood will not feel the same without its mayor, but his memory will remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 20, 2026 at 1:00 p.m. at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Edward S. Robinson Sr. officiating. The family will receive friends one before the service at the church from 12:00 noon until 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow the service at Fort Hill Cemetery in Cleveland, TN.
“Gone from our sight, but never from our hearts.”
