Dewayne Edward McDermott was born June 3, 1963 in Etowah, Tennessee to John Robert and Alice McDermott. He passed into perfect peace on Sunday, April 26, 2015.

He was a proud graduate of McMinn Central High School in Etowah, Tennessee after which he attended East Tennessee State University in Johnson City, Tennessee. Shortly after, he enlist in the US Army where he proudly served his country for 7 years, earning a bronze medal. Following his departure from the Army he was employed by the city of Etowah and the VA of Johnson City.

Dewayne was preceded in death by his mother, Alice McDermott and grandparents Johnny and Lucy Henegar.

Dewayne leaves to cherish and celebrate his legacy, two loving sons, Brandon McDermott of Trotwood, Ohio and Jariah Edward McDermott of Johnson City, TN; devoted father, John Robert McDermott; Three loving sisters, Poncella Roberts, Jodie (Frankie) Williams, and Lucy (Rick) Walker all of Etowah, TN; Three devoted brothers, Leroy (Hazel) McDermott of Chattanooga, TN, John Robert McDermott Jr. of Etowah, TN, and Stevie (Jasmine) McDermott of Athens, TN; special friends and family, Tiffany Miller, Darwin McDermott, Jake ‘Perry’ Sanders, Doris Parris, Michael Cole, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and VA family and friends.

Service will be held Sunday, May 3, 2015 at Star Bethel Baptist Church at 3 p.m. with visitation from 2 p.m. till 3 p.m. with Rev. James Parris officiating.

Interment will be held Monday, May 4 at the National Cemetery, Chattanooga, TN at 10:30 a.m. Services of loving memory entrusted to M.D. Dotson & Sons Funeral Home – Athens, Tn.
